Philip-Lorca diCorcia wurde 1951 in Hartford im US-Bundesstaat Connecticut geboren. Sein Studium der Fotografie an der renommierten Yale University schloss er 1979 erfolgreich ab. Bekannt wurde er nicht zuletzt durch Einzelausstellungen seiner Werke am Museum of Modern Art in New York, am Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, im Centre National de la Photographie in Paris, in der Whitechapel Art Gallery in London und im Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid. Er war Stipendiat der Guggenheim Foundation und erhielt mehrere Förderpreise des National Endowment for the Arts, der Nationalen Kulturstiftung der USA. Museen wie die Französische Nationalbibliothek und das Museum of Modern Art oder das Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York kauften Werke von di Corcia für ihre Sammlungen. 2003 veröffentlichte er das Buch A Storybook Life (2003) und 2007 das Buch Thousand, das auch am Los Angeles County Museum of Art ausgestellt wurde. diCorcia lebt und arbeitet in New York.
