Full Description
Wolfgang Laib coined a phrase on the occasion of the opening of one of his exhibitions in France that describes his work, "L'ephemere, c'est l'eternite" (The ephemeral is eternal). This volume of photographs, taken on his travels, attempts to somehow grasp this fleeting and almost intangible essence. Aspects that particularly fascinate Laib include the non-European notions of spirituality, such as the Indian tradition of religion being embedded in everyday life. He also looks at the way various ancient monuments, temples or tombs despite the history they are embedded in, still exert a force in the present. His photographs often show us people who live in a timeless relationship with these stone archetypes. Laib's almost meditative pictures capture the "aura" as it were of such everyday vistas and allow us to glimpse the deeper eternal meaning.
