This handbook explains how prints are made and gives a brief history of the development of the different processes. Relief, intaglio, planographic and stencil techniques are all described and papermaking is briefly covered for its effect on the character of an impression. The text also shows how these manual processes have been developed into the photo-mechanical techniques used by commercial printers and artists. A glossary of the terminology of printing and the abbreviations most commonly found in inscriptions on them is included.
