This weekly periodical initially printed and edited in Sherborne by Robert Goadby (1721-78), ran from October 4, 1773, was superseded in 1783 by the Weekly Entertainer, and continued publication until 1824. The full title of the first collected volume is The Weekly Miscellany; or. Instructive Entertainer. Containing a Collection of Select Pieces, both in Prose and Verse, and Ingenious Essays on Different Subjects, a title which implies that the editorial intention was from the beginning to supply reprinted articles.
