Full Description
This forms part of the "Returning Wildlife" series which examines animal species threatened with extinction. This work focuses on the Florida panther. It discusses the physical characteristics and behaviour of this species of puma, threats to its existence and efforts to protect these animals. Florida panthers have survived in the inaccessible reaches of the Florida Everglades for centuries. During the 20th century, however, as humans encroached on their habitat, panthers appeared headed for extinction. Innovative strategies, such as crossbreeding panthers with Texas cougars and building highway underpasses have given panthers a hopeful outlook.
