Full Description
Through the use of primary documents, this series presents history in all its complexity. Each volume is an anthology of primary sources including: newspaper articles, speeches, personal reflections, letters, diaries, memoranda and official reports. This volume presents a collection of essays, reports, and articles covering racial segregation by such figures as Martin Luther King, Jr., George C. Wallace, and John F. Kennedy. Special care has been taken to include a diversity of views in order to illustrate the vast range of opinion on historical topics and to promote the reader's critical reading and thinking skills. An in-depth introduction sets the stage by providing essential context. Each document is then preceded by an introduction that places it in its historical context. Guided reading questions assist the reader to interpret the document and to think critically about the topic at hand.
