Full Description
This volume takes as its starting point the recurrent motif of the figure of Venus and the associated picture of Cupid in Western art from the Renaissance to the present day, and uses it to raise issues of art, gender and sexuality. Each essay brings a particular movement into focus, looking at specific works of painting, sculpture, design or photography. Approached as a manifestly historical problem, the theme of art and sexuality is also addressed in the essays in ways informed by certain theoretical discussions in feminism.
