The building of the Three Gorges Dam and the flooding the Yangzi River has meant that many areas along the Upper Yangzi River will be submerged under water. Many sites along this part of the river have great historical significance and the Chinese government has endeavoured to safeguard as much of the country's history by relocating or building dikes for protection. In this final installment, Eric Danielson takes readers on a journey of these places along the Upper Yangzi. Some have already been submerged and this book probably holds the last known English-language journal of the sites as they were. In some cases, he was also able to visit the new sites and offer a comparison. Nonetheless, as he does with his previous two books. Danielson provides up-to-date practical information on exploring the Three Gorges and the sites along the Upper Yangzi, complete with detailed historical backgrounds which were previously only available in the Chinese language. This book also includes places where travellers can stay, and has tips on hassle-free ways on getting around.Readers will come away with an educated insight into the significance of the structures and places that can be found at the Three Gorges and the upper Yangzi River.
