Mit dem"Lexicon Grammaticorum" erscheint ein vollständiges Nachschlagewerk über die Personen aller Zeitalter und Kulturen bis zur Gegenwart, die sich mit dem Phänomen Sprache befaßt und dazu geforscht und geschrieben haben. Das Lexiokon enthält Artikel über mehr als 1500 Vertreter sprachwissenschaftlicher Tradition, verfaßt von 422 Mitarbeitern aus 27 Ländern.
Die Artikel bestehen aus einer Biographie des Dargestellten, einem Abriß seines Werks und seiner Wirkung und einer Primär- und Sekundärbibliographie. Soweit wie möglich ist die Primärbibliographie vollständig; ist das Werk sehr umfangreich, sind die wichtigsten Titel aufgeführt, und es wird auf schon vorhandene Bibliographien verwiesen.

The "Lexicon Grammaticorum" is a comprehensive reference book that provides information on the lives and work of all scholars and thinkers throughout the world who have concerned themselves down the ages with the study and description of language.
The handbook contains articles on more than 1.500 representatives of the world's linguistic tradition, written by 422 authors from 27 countries.
Generally an article consists of a biography, an abstract of the linguist's achievements, including his or her influence, and a two-part bibliography, listing first the works by, then those about him or her. Whenever possible, the references are complete; where the works are too numerous for all to be listed, only the main titles appear, with references to already existing bibliographies.
The aim of the "Lexicon" is to provide access to the history of linguistics through its most important representatives and to combine the world's diverse traditions in one book.
