Incorporating the results of international research on Müntzer's social environment, this volume not only presents the published findings of the pertinent secondary literature on every person referred to in his letters, but also contributes new information gained through archival research. Thus the book is an important contribution to the social history of the places associated with Müntzer or his correspondents. The theological propositions are anchored in Müntzer's spiritual environment by pointing out references to Martin Luther and other theologians on the one hand, and by delineating the latters' opinions in order to illuminate Müntzer's agreement or deviating position on the other.

Dr. theol. Helmar Junghans, geboren 1931, ist em. Professor für Kirchengeschichte der Universität Leipzig. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Kirchengeschichte des Spätmittelalters, Reformationsgeschichte, besonders Martin Luther und sächsische Kirchengeschichte. Er ist Herausgeber des "Lutherjahrbuches".
