Full Description

This book comprises a collection of lectures which were first delivered in the British Academy's series of Chatterton lectures on an English poet. The series was established in the mid 1950s under the will of E.H.W. Meyerstein, poet, novelist, biographer, dramatist, critic, and admirer of Chatterton. The will made provision for an annual lecture, to be given by a lecturer under the age of 40, on the life and work of a deceased English poet. This selection, delivered between 1958 and 1976, seeks to bring together the best of the lectures given in this series.
